17 How To Play Naruto Ninja Council
DIFFICULTY Moderately Easy
INTRODUCTION The popular Naruto franchise has now licensed three separate versions of the Naruto Ninja Council video game. Ninja Council and Ninja Council 2 were created for the GameBoy Advance platform and were issued in 2006. Ninja Council 3 was issued in May 2007 especially (and only) for the Nintendo DS. Much more sophisticated than the earlier versions, Ninja Council 3 allow users to play any of over 20 different characters.
SECTION TITLE Play Ninja Council or Ninja Council 2 on the GameBoy Advance
STEPS
Step 1: Choose among the three members of the Naruto saga's Squad 7 (Naruto, Sasuke or Sakura) to complete missions in this game.
Step 2: Use teamwork during battle by calling on allies such as Kakashi to assist your character with special jutsu moves and skills.
Step 3: Move easily from the original Ninja Council to Ninja Council 2 because of the continuity between the two GameBoy Advance games.
SECTION TITLE Power Up Your Nintendo DS to Play Ninja Council 3
Step 1: Choose among over 20 characters to select the character you will play in Ninja Council 3. Altogether the game features over 40 characters.
Step 2: Assemble your team based on the availability of other characters' attack modes, because this game is based on a new Interchangeable Attack System that allows any character to lend his jutsu to another in order to complete a vital mission.
Step 3: Begin play immediately if you have previously played Ninja Council or Ninja Council 2 on a GameBoy Advance and have basic familiarity with the Nintendo DS. Otherwise, use your QuickStart guide to get familiar with basic commands and let the games begin.
Step 4: Develop your skills and complete your missions so that you can begin unlocking new content and characters such as Gaara, who is unlocked when you successfully complete "Secret Technique," and Tsunade, whom you can unlock only by conquering "The Famous Kunoichi."
RESOURCES
1. Check Amazon.com for Ninja Council, Ninja Council 2 and Ninja Council 3 prices
OVERALLTIPS
1. Ninja Council and Ninja Council 2 both tend to be available off-price at Amazon.com and are a good starting point for younger children who want to use the Naruto saga to learn video game play with a Game Boy Advance (see Resources below).
2. Read the mangas and watch anime episodes on DVD or on the Carton Network to steep yourself in thorough knowledge of all of the main characters of Ninja Council 3. The more you know about their skills and weaknesses, the better a Nintendo DS ninja you will be.

This game was released in Japan in December 2006 and has not been released in an English-language version.

STEPS
Step 1: Begin playing Naruto Shinobi Retsuden in its most simple mode, called Story Mode. Here you will follow the basic story line of the manga.
Step 2: Choose Naruto as your only controllable character in this mode. Although you may find that the game is simple and uninteresting in this mode, it will allow you to gain familiarity with the game and its command structure even if you are not fluent in the game's language, which is Japanese.
Step 3: Select a more complex mode of play as you gain experience using your Nintendo DS to play this game. The other modes are Single Battle, Arcade and Multi-Player, a wireless option that you can either join or host if you have wireless connectivity.
Step 4: Use the standard Nintendo DS keys (arrows and LRABXY) to manipulate Naruto or other characters to block, sidestep, attack, jump or carry out other moves. You may pause the game at any time, or resume it, by using the "Start" key.

Step 1: Visit the Gamespot website's Naruto Shinobi Retsuden FAQs to read and print out a full set of instructions in English (see Resources below).

18 How To Play The Naruto Card Battle
DIFFICULTY Moderate
INTRODUCTION In the short time since the first release of Naruto collectible cards in April 2006, thousands of Naruto fans have been transformed from enthusiasts to active participants through Naruto Card Battle games and Naruto CCG (Collectible Card Game) tournaments. SECTION TITLE Learn the Naruto Card Battle Game Basics First
STEPS
Step 1: Find a few friends with whom you can play your first Naruto Card Battle games to learn the basics and develop your skills.
Step 2: Visit your local hobby or card store to find Naruto cards and game accessories and add your name to the store's contact list so you can stay informed about tournaments in your area.

SECTION TITLE Build a Powerful Deck to Advance in Skill
Step 1: Assemble a deck of 40 Naruto cards in front of you on the table or floor and trade cards in and out to make the best deck possible.
Step 2: Limit the deck to a maximum of 25 ninja cards with no more than 3 copies of any single card. You always need to have ninja cards in play, so it is wise to include a full complement of 25 ninja cards rather than to begin play with too few of them.
Step 3: Include several low Entrance Cost ninja so that your opponent is not able to defeat you in the first 5 turns. A card's Entrance Cost is printed on a green graphic on the card's right side below the picture.

DIFFICULTY Easy
INTRODUCTION Like other major manga or anime franchises, Naruto comes with its own endless supply of game cards that enthusiasts collect either to play the Naruto Card Battle or for other purposes. Fortunately, once you get into Naruto you may find yourself gathering cards everywhere!

OVERALLTIPS
1. One way to make sure you are participating safely in an online forum is to refrain from providing optional information that may be requested. You do not have to give your date of birth or PayPal account name and you can hide your email address so that it is not revealed publicly. 19 How To Pick A Naruto Character To Play
DIFFICULTY Moderately Easy
INTRODUCTION One of the reasons that the Naruto saga is so popular with its fans is that they find it easy to identify with Naruto or other cast members in the manga books, television anime episodes and movies. When the Naruto medium switches to video games, Naruto Online or collectible card games that identification becomes even more intense as fans actually get to play their favorite characters' roles.
SECTION TITLE Pick the Character That Allows You the Richest Experience of the Naruto Story
STEPS
Step 1: Choose Naruto video or other games based both on their reviews and on the selection of characters they offer.
Step 2: Pick the main character of the series, Naruto Uzumaki, if you want to experience the central action of a game through his character.
Step 3: Choose Kakashi Hatake, who is sensei or teacher for Naruto, Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha, to play the game through the experience of the character who must guide and mentor Naruto and his fellow Squad 7 members as he seeks to become the next Hokage. At times Kakashi has outpolled Naruto in surveys as the most popular member of the Naruto cast with fans.
Step 4: Select from other characters such as Sasuke or Sakura if you want to put yourself in their shoes to try to understand how they really feel about Naruto and why they feel that way.
SECTION TITLE Choose a Character to Relive Dramatic Moments From the Series
Step 1: Study the original manga on which all other Naruto media are based and select dramatic struggles to relive through video games.
Step 2: Choose the characters that will allow you to re-enact such struggles as the Kunoichi Rumble between Sakura and Ino or the fight that pitted Naruto and Sasuke against Haku soon after they left the ninja academy.
Step 3: Steer the video game action toward the moments you seek to create and the confrontations in which you are determined to prevail.
OVERALLWARNINGS
1. Never pick a character to play in any game unless you can relate to and believe in that character's primary goal or mission in the game, or you will only end up bored.
OVERALLTIPS
1. Much more than anime programs you may have watched as a younger child such as Pokemon or Digimon, the Naruto saga is driven by strong characters who are trying to overcome meaningful obstacles as they drive toward their goals. The more you follow their stories, the more enjoyment you will experience when you get to play these characters in your own game-based versions of the Naruto saga.

12 How To Select Naruto Avatars
PAGE TITLE Select Naruto Avatars
DIFFICULTY Easy
INTRODUCTION Based originally on the Hindu notion of an earthly manifestation of a higher being, the concept of an avatar has come to mean something significantly more common and accessible to Naruto enthusiasts and fans of other media sagas. Naruto fans often select, as avatars, favorite graphical images that embody, for them, the essences of their favorite characters from the Naruto franchise. A suitable avatar image is usually thumbnail-sized.
SECTION TITLE Prepare to Collect Naruto Avatars
STEPS
Step 1: Create a folder or subdirectory within your computer's "My Pictures" directory and label it "My Naruto Avatars."
Step 2: Select your favorite Naruto characters and beings as potential subjects for Naruto avatars.
Step 3: Focus on specific events, body parts or beings that are essential to the ninja powers of your favorite characters, such as the eye that Kakashi "inherited" from Obito or the nine-tailed demon fox whose spirit is forever sealed within Naruto's body. Just as Kakashi's eye gives him the special powers of Sharingan from the Uchiha clan, the spirit of the fox provides Naruto with seemingly limitless chakra.
Step 4: Look for avatar images that will represent these moments or forces in your favorite characters' ninja careers while also representing what makes the characters special to you.
SECTION TITLE Save Naruto Avatar Images on Your Computer
Step 1: Browse the Naruto HQ website's Avatar Gallery to find Naruto avatars that appeal to you and meet these requirements. This gallery contains over 250 high-impact, full-color avatar images that can be safely saved without requiring you to download any files.
Step 2: Identify a specific avatar image and right-click on it to save it to your "My Naruto Avatars" folder or subdirectory by using the "Save Image As" feature.
Step 3: Select your favorite Naruto avatar from the avatar images that you save and use it as a graphic symbol for your presence on Naruto forums, email profiles and other Internet venues.
RESOURCES
1. Browse the Naruto HQ website's Avatar Gallery
OVERALLWARNINGS
1. Be very careful about downloading images to your computer and only download from trusted websites. If you select your avatar images from the Naruto HQ website, you can use the "Save Image" feature so that you won't have to resort downloading, which can sometimes bring unwanted files onto your computer's hard drive.
OVERALLTIPS
04 How To Collect Naruto Comics
DIFFICULTY Easy
INTRODUCTION The colossally popular Naruto franchise originated in humble fashion with the publication of a series of Japanese comics, or "manga," beginning in 1999. The series starred a young ninja-in-training named Naruto, his two fellow students Sasuke and Sakura and their mentor Kakashi. These manga have appeared in three formats: as chapters in "Shonen Jump" magazine, as separately issued books and in boxed sets of paperbacks or hardcovers.
SECTION TITLE Build Your Collection of Naruto Comics for Your Own Reading Pleasure
STEPS
Step 1: Build a collection of Naruto comics simply for your own reading pleasure by choosing either the paperback individual volumes of the hardcover boxed set format. Add each new title as it comes out.
Step 2: Preview Naruto comics online before you collect them for good with the Manga Viewer at Naruto Central (see Resources below).
Step 3: Read and collect Naruto manga volumes in the order they are published and released to follow the story line as Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura proceed from mission to mission.
Step 4: Maintain a checklist of the books that have been issued, those that you have and those that are yet to be released in the U.S.
Step 5: Browse Naruto comics listings on Amazon to watch for new titles as they appear (see Resources below).
SECTION TITLE Acquire Naruto Comics and Japanese Naruto Manga as Collectibles
Step 1: Check eBay regularly for Japanese versions of the original Naruto manga to add to your collection (see Resources below).
Step 2: Purchase first-printing copies of Naruto comics whenever possible.
Step 3: Build a collection of boxed set hardcover versions of Naruto titles in English as the sets are released. These sets are more elegant than their paperback counterparts and will be more durable if they are well cared for.
Step 4: Take special care of books that you acquire as collectibles. Many collectors use what they call "the white-glove approach" if they want to read a book they intend to keep as a collectible.
RESOURCES
1. Browse Naruto comics listings on Amazon
2. Check eBay for Japanese Naruto manga
OVERALLWARNINGS
1. Although Naruto comics, Japanese manga and their animated versions are wildly popular, beware of investing too much in Naruto products as collectibles. Items that are subject to huge million-unit print runs seldom sustain long-term value as collectibles or in secondary markets.
2. Watch out for excessive shipping charges when you use eBay to collect Naruto comics from international or domestic sellers. Always know the shipping charge before you bid on any item.
OVERALLTIPS
1. One drawback if you decide to collect Naruto comics in boxed set format is that you have to wait longer for the sets to be issued, whereas new paperback volumes are released each month.
05 How To Pick Naruto Movies
PAGE TITLE Pick Naruto Movies
DIFFICULTY Easy
INTRODUCTION American Naruto enthusiasts can expect several years of new releases of Naruto movies if the Naruto franchise continues to follow its pattern of translating and adapting original Japanese movies for the large and small screens in English-speaking countries. These will include full-length movies, anime episodes of TV content and original video anime (OVA) DVDs that fill in "lost episodes" in the Naruto saga.
SECTION TITLE Pick Naruto Movies and Anime Episodes to Watch in Sequence
STEPS
Step 1: Watch "Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow," the first full-length movie of the Naruto franchise to be released in U.S. movie theaters.
Step 2: Plan to see the next full-length Naruto movie when it is released in 2008. The working translation of its Japanese title is "Great Clash! The Illusionary Ruins at the Depths of the Earth."
Step 3: Mark your calendar to watch the third full-length Naruto movie, "The Animal Riot of Crescent Moon Island," when it is released in 2009.
Step 4: Pick Naruto anime episodes in sequence on the Cartoon Network or in DVD release. Cartoon Network began showing Naruto in 2005 in the United States, and has so far shown translated versions of nearly half of the over 200 episodes that appeared originally in Japan.
Step 5: Keep a checklist of Naruto episodes and movies that you have seen, or have yet to see, so you don't duplicate your efforts or purchases.
SECTION TITLE Check for Original Video Animations
Step 1: Keep your eyes peeled for any new original video animation (OVA) to help fill in missing details of the Naruto saga.
Step 2: Pick an OVA like "Mission: Protect the Waterfall Village" to learn pieces of the lost story that are not in the original manga or anime TV series. This 40-minute DVD was released in May 2007.
Step 3: Browse for new OVA releases in the Shonen Jump "Naruto Collector" magazine series or by searching for OVA DVDs on Amazon (see Resources below). Japanese OVA DVDs not yet released in the United States include Find the Crimson Four-Leaf Clover and Battle at Hidden Falls: I am the Hero.
RESOURCES
1. Check for OVA DVDs on Amazon
OVERALLTIPS
1. Learn about the "double role" of actress Yukie Fujikaze in "Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow" before you see the movie so that you won't be confused by the fact that you are watching a movie of another movie at the beginning of the film. Yukie is initially seen playing the heroine Princess Gale before the real action shifts to her original homeland, the Land of Snow.
03 How To Pick Naruto Video Games
DIFFICULTY Moderately Easy
INTRODUCTION Since the first Naruto video game was released in Japan in March 2003 there has been an explosive growth in the selection of Naruto video games for use with each of the major video game devices. However, as each game becomes available it is licensed for only a single device. The video games are major part of the Naruto franchise and receive major publicity in Naruto websites and magazines.
SECTION TITLE Prepare to Pick Out Naruto Video Games for Your System
STEPS
Step 1: Check out the Naruto video game choices for the specific game platform you own or plan to own, from among PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Wii, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable. Each of these platform support one or more games.
Step 2: Exclude the Japanese versions of these games unless you have fluency in the Japanese language or are otherwise prepared for the challenge of playing a game in an unfamiliar language.
Step 3: Read reviews, tips and advertising messages about the Naruto video games in Shonen Jump's "Naruto Collector" magazines.
SECTION TITLE Pick and Purchase the Right Naruto Video Game
Step 1: Pick Naruto video games based on the characters available in each game, so that you can be assured of being able to play the characters that interest you most. For instance, the ad on p. 7 of "Naruto Collector 3" discloses that in the PlayStation 2 game "Ultimate Ninja 2" you can play as Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, Tsunade, or more than two dozen other characters.
Step 2: Browse the Naruto Nintendo Games website if you own or plan to pick a Nintendo DS device to play Naruto video games (see Resources below).
Step 3: Purchase your Naruto video game at a neighborhood store or from the Naruto store on Amazon.com (see Resources below).

1. Video game device that supports the game you pick
RESOURCES
1. Browse the Naruto Nintendo Games website
2. Check out the Naruto store on Amazon.com
OVERALLWARNINGS
1. Be careful to order your video game carefully based on the device that you will lose. Many stores and online sellers charge a re-stocking fee and/or return shipping charge before they will allow you to return merchandise that you have ordered incorrectly. If the packaging is no longer sealed, they may not accept your return at all.
OVERALLTIPS
1. If you own a Nintendo DS or Play Station 2 video game console you will have the widest choice of Naruto games available. The other devices are playing catch-up to license and develop Naruto games.
08 How To Create A Naruto Costume
DIFFICULTY Moderately Easy
INTRODUCTION Naruto costumes are likely to be in vogue for Halloween and costume parties for all ages for years to come. You can have a lot of fun by living out the Naruto saga for a few hours in full costume and regalia. To make sure you aren't one of 3 Narutos or 5 Sakuras at your next costume party, you may want to pick a lesser known character.
SECTION TITLE Study Naruto Movies and Manga to Get Character and Costume Ideas
STEPS
Step 1: Watch the full-length movie "Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow" to see the main Naruto characters as well as others central to the movie. The popularity of this film will help ensure that your friends and neighborsat least the kids among them--will recognize a well-designed costume.
Step 2: Look carefully at the cartoon panels in your favorite Naruto manga books to get up-close ideas about how to create a costume for your favorite character.
SECTION TITLE Begin With a Distinctive Accessory for Your Naruto Character
Step 1: Select or design an item of jewelry to represent the hexagonal-shaped crystal pendant that Yukie Fujikaze wears around her neck "Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow" if you want to design a costume for the actress and play her dual-role part.
Step 2: Use accessories such as a prop dagger and a long dark cape-like coat to highlight your transformation into Yukie's manager, Sandayu Asama. Tie an eye-dropper to the dagger so you can help Yukie shed fake tears as Sandayu did in "Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow."
SECTION TITLE Find the Clothes to Create the Rest of the Character's Costume
Step 1: Check around the house for the right pieces to complete the costume you are designing. A camouflage flak jacket may do the trick for Kakashi, or a long red or purple coat with white fringe for Yukie.
Step 2: Browse the costume choices at your nearest costume store, Target, or the CostumZee website's Naruto department to get additional ideas for clothing, accessories and characters (see Resources below).
Step 3: Begin months beforehand to create the Naruto character, costume and effect you want to bring to life, so that you can be on the lookout for the perfect articles from yard sales to your parents' closets.
RESOURCES
1. Browse the CostumZee website's Naruto department
OVERALLTIPS
1. You can get plenty of great costume and accessory ideas by looking at the original manga books, but remember that they won't give you many clues as to the colors worn by many characters. Check appropriate colors by watching anime episodes, movies or browsing the Shonen Jump "Naruto Collector" magazine series.
02 Choose Naruto Wallpaper
DIFFICULTY Moderately Easy
INTRODUCTION As Naruto's popularity grows worldwide, so do the number of Naruto fansites and other websites offering free wallpaper downloads in addition to other Naruto materials and paraphernalia. Many Naruto fans enjoy decking out their computers with wallpaper, screen savers, sound tracks and trailers based on the popular manga and anime series.
SECTION TITLE Prepare to Set New Wallpaper on Your Computer
STEPS
Step 1: Check with the owner of your computer, if it is someone other than yourself, to make sure that you have permission to download and choose new or different wallpaper on your computer's desktop.
Step 2: Use a personal log-in on your computer so that your wallpaper and other theme selections do not encroach on other users.
Step 3: Create a directory or folder called "Wallpapers" within your "My Pictures" directory or folder as a place where you can save and easily browse for various Naruto wallpaper choices.
SECTION TITLE Visit Naruto websites to Choose Wallpaper Favorites
Step 1: Visit the official Naruto English-language website operated by Naruto publisher VizMedia.com to view and download official Naruto wallpaper offerings (see resources below).
Step 2: Hover your mouse over "Extras" and click on "Wallpapers," then use the "Back" and "Next" buttons to view the wallpaper offerings.
Step 3: Click on a screen resolution choice such as "1024 x 768" to see the wallpaper's full-screen image.
Step 4: Right-click on the image and select "Save Image As" to download the wallpaper image into your "Wallpapers" directory or folder or, if you are using a Mac, just drag the image into your desktop folder.
Step 5: Set any image as your desktop wallpaper by right-clicking on your desktop, selecting "Properties" and "Desktop" and browsing your "Wallpapers" directory to find the right image.
Step 6: Visit other fansites such as Naruto Central's Wallpapers Gallery and repeat these steps to broaden your choice of Naruto wallpapers (see Resources below).
Step 7: Exchange wallpaper images with friends by sending the images as email attachments. Always know the email's sender before opening any email attachment, to protect your computer against viruses and other infections.
RESOURCES
1. Visit the official Naruto English-language website
2. Check out Naruto Central's Wallpapers Gallery
OVERALLWARNINGS
1. Never download wallpaper or any free file unless you are certain that you are downloading from a trustworthy site. Unfortunately, free downloads often contain spyware, malware, viruses and infections that can create serious problems on your computer.
2. Don't pay money for wallpaper unless it is going on your wall. You can choose from dozens of free wallpaper offerings.
OVERALLTIPS
1. Any image that you can save on your computer can be turned into wallpaper.

01 How to Read Naruto Manga
DIFFICULTY Moderately Easy
INTRODUCTION Manga, which is Japanese for comics, have grown steadily as a Japanese publishing phenomenon over the past half-century. Naruto, a very popular current manga series, has spread around the world. Author Masashi Kishimoto created the series in 1999 with a loud but likeable adolescent ninja in the title role. These manga, in the original Japanese and later English translations, are the key to events that occur in other Naruto media.
SECTION TITLE Unlock the Secrets of Naruto With Naruto Manga
STEPS
Step 1: Learn the whole story of Naruto and his fellow ninja Sasuke and Sakura by reading the translated English versions of the original manga as they appear in your country.
Step 2: Check your local public library or school library for the early volumes of Naruto manga, beginning with "Naruto, Volume 1: The Tests of the Ninja." If your librarian has not heard of the word manga you may want to refer to the title as a graphic novel.
Step 3: Purchase volumes of Naruto as you are ready to read them or order the boxed set of the first 27 volumes on Amazon (see Resources below). The boxed set is printed in hardcover and is sold at a savings of nearly half what you might pay for all 27 paperbacks if you bought them one at a time.
Step 4: Keep a checklist showing which Naruto manga you have read, which ones you have and which ones are available but not yet in your collection. This will keep you from duplicating purchases or reading the manga out of order, and may also help provide you with a ready answer if someone asks you what you'd like for a gift.
Step 5: Find friends at school or in your neighborhood who are also Naruto enthusiasts. One of the pleasures of reading a manga series like Naruto is the opportunity to talk with friends and compare notes about past mysteries and future possibilities in the ongoing saga.
SECTION TITLE Follow Naruto Manga From Back to Front
Step 1: Begin reading Naruto or any true manga at the back cover. Even English translations follow the back-to-front and right-to-left flow of the Japanese originals. If you open the manga at the front as you would for most books in English, you'll probably find a headline on the inside page that says, "You're Reading in the Wrong Direction!"
Step 2: Read the comic panels on each manga page from right to left, and top to bottom. Fortunately, within each panel you'll find the English letters and words arranged from left to right.
RESOURCES
1. Order the Naruto boxed set of 27 volumes on Amazon
OVERALLWARNINGS
1. When buying Naruto manga volumes online be sure to specify "book" in your search so that you find and purchase manga rather than anime episodes, profiles, collectible cards or video games.
OVERALLTIPS
1. Unless you read Japanese, you will have to wait for English translations of each manga volume to become available for purchase. These books are the best source of Naruto information and story that is also reflected in other media such as collectible cards, video games and the television and full-length film anime.
